What is Faith?

Hebrews 10:39-11:1

“But we are not of those who shring back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Faith and hope are not the same things.

Hope is an anticipation of an thing or an event.  We hope for the coming of Christ.  We hope for the redemption of our bodies. We hope for the restoration of creation (Romans 8).

Faith is the belief that our hopes will come true.  Hope can waiver, that’s why faith is necessary. Faith is the infastructure for our hopes in the Gospel.  It’s the assurance…the confidence that we are sure that God’s promise our true.  Convinced that nothing escapes his sovereignty.  If you’re struggling to cling to the truth of God today, pray the Spirit strengthens your faith, so you can with confidence cling to the hope of God’s promises.
